Absorbable vs nonabsorbable hemostat

Hemostats are medical devices or substances used to control bleeding during surgical procedures or to facilitate the natural blood clotting process. They can be categorized into two main types: absorbable and nonabsorbable hemostats . Here's a comparison of the two: Absorbable Hemostats: Absorbable hemostats are designed to be absorbed by the body over time. They are typically made from natural or synthetic materials that break down and are metabolized or excreted by the body. Common materials used in absorbable hemostats include collagen, gelatin, oxidized cellulose, and some synthetic polymers. Absorbable hemostats are often used in surgical procedures where temporary hemostasis is needed, but the body's natural healing process should eventually take over. They can provide short-term hemostasis and are gradually replaced by the body's own tissue repair mechanisms. Examples of absorbable hemostats include Surgicel (oxidized cellulose), Gelfoam (gelatin), and collagen-bas
